“Hidden and Revealed: Paintings and Prints by Julia Rymer” features a collection of original mixed media works on paper and canvas that weave together themes of historical and cultural discovery and loss, the relationship of language to cultural fluency, assimilation, Colorado history, and Jewish practices and texts.

In this series, history is as much a material as paint or charcoal. In the creation of these works, Julia Rymer uncovers both meaning and misunderstanding, reconciling the loss of tradition and culture through generations while reclaiming and reframing the value of ancient rituals, practices, and other understandings of the world. Reproductions of materials from the University of Denver Beck Memorial Archives and other local archives are incorporated in the works and displayed alongside the artworks in the exhibition.

Learn more about Julia Rymer and her work at https://www.juliarymer.com/about-me/.

The opening reception will include a panel discussion “Artistic Resonance: Blending History and Heritage in Art” at 6:00 P.M. The panel is made up of an interdisciplinary mix of DU faculty and staff.

Join us for an evening of artistic inspiration, mingling with fellow art enthusiasts, and enjoying refreshments. Please RSVP by September 6 at https://udenver.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_bPEU6FRgTYBWSnI
