Checking Out Materials

Visitors can open a Visitor Borrowing Account and check out materials from the University Libraries provided they already have a library account with a qualifying university or Colorado public library.

Visitors will need:

  • Photo ID
  • Proof of affiliation with a qualifying university or Colorado public library (institutional ID, current class schedule, library card, etc.)
  • Referral form (pdf) (in some cases)

Visitors that do not meet the above criteria can purchase an annual library account for $100 which includes on-site access to select library databases.

Visitors can request items in advance by calling the Lending Desk at 303-871-3707. Any materials may be requested for browsing in the Main Library. Items will be picked up at the Lending Desk for use within the library. Refer to the visitor library privileges for information on checkout periods and limits, renewal and fines.

Visitors do not have Prospector or Interlibrary Loan services through DU, but may use those services at their home library to request items from the DU Libraries.

Computers and Databases

Computers in the Anderson Academic Commons are available to Visitors. Current DU current students, staff, and faculty are given priority during times of high use.

Computer Access passes may be obtained by opening a Visitor Borrowing Account if patron is affiliated with an eligible institution.

Computer Access passes are also available for purchase for $5 (daily) or $20 (monthly). Purchased Computer Access passes do not grant checkout privileges of materials. Visitors must also sign a Computer Use Agreement, which is kept on file at the Lending Desk.

Computer use must follow DU's Acceptable Use Policy for Computer and Network Systems. Misuse will result in the loss of library privileges.

Not all databases are available to patrons with Visitor passes. For details on visitor access, review our Database Access Privileges or contact the Research Center at research@du.libanswers.com.
