wimple made from the swaddling cloths of Yaacov Ben Naftali Kahn from Boppard,
Germany. Wimples are used to wrap around Torah scrolls. The wimple is ornately
embroidered with Hebrew text. This photo shows the entire length of the wimple.
From right to left the embroidery reads in Hebrew: "Yaakov bar (son of) Naftali
the Cohen was born with good fortune on Sunday, the 19th of Iyar 5659, (April
29-30, 1899) May G*d make him grow in (or) raise him to Torah and to the
Hupah (marriage canopy) and to good deeds. Amen. Selah." |
