National Water Quality Inventory: Report to Congress
Environmental Protection Agency. Office of Water.
As required by the Clean Water Act, states must submit reports on water quality to the Environmental
Protection Agency every two years. The EPA, in turn, analyzes these state reports and submits a report to
Congress. These reports characterize our water quality, identifies widespread water quality problems of
national significance, and describes various programs implemented to restore and protect our waters.
