Penrose Library has recently acquired 20th-Century American Newspapers, Series 1-3. This Readex database of digital historical newspapers begins coverage in 1923 (when America’s Historical Newspapers ends) and extends it through the twentieth century into the 1980s and 1990s. Series 1-3 comprises the following regional titles:

The Times-Picayune (New Orleans, Louisiana; 1923-1988)

The Plain Dealer (Cleveland, Ohio; 1923-1991)

The Oregonian (Portland, Oregon; 1923-1987)

Press-Register (Mobile, Alabama; 1970-1992)

The Seattle Times (Seattle, Washington; 1923-1984)

The Times (Trenton, New Jersey; 1923-1993)

The Springfield Republican (Springfield, Massachusetts; 1923-1946) and The Springfield Union (Springfield, Massachusetts; 1947-1987)

The Dallas Morning News (Dallas, Texas; 1923-1984)

The Augusta Chronicle (Augusta, Georgia; 1923-1993)

These newspapers are cross-searchable on the America’s Historical Newspapers platform, either as a separate set (20th-Century American Newspapers), or in tandem with the Early American Newspapers (1690-1922) series and the Hispanic American Newspapers (1808-1980).

20th-Century American Newspapers can be found by title in the library catalog, or listed under the “Databases” tab, in the “Newspapers (Historical)>Also Useful” category.
