New Drive-up Book Drops at Driscoll!

Tuesday, July 26th, 2011

Due to the closure of the Penrose Library building for renovation, books now must be returned to Penrose@Driscoll.

We are happy to announce that in addition to returning books to the Access Services Desk in the Driscoll Ballroom, you may also use our two new drive-up book drops.  One is on the southwest  side of Driscoll near the Lot E parking structure and the other is on the northwest side by Race St.

Please note that you will have to exit your vehicle to deposit books in these drops, but having them adjacent to parking areas should make returning large numbers of books much easier.

Create Your Own Keywords For Our Books and DVDs

Tuesday, July 19th, 2011

With the Encore Library catalog, you can create your own keyword tags for items in the collection.  This is a handy way for people to create readings lists for themselves or others.  For example, I started tagging our collection of the top 100 grossing films.

This is a great way to virtually group books and other items together.  Want to create a list of the best books on Thai cuisine or a list of the best Shakespeare plays? Go ahead and give it a try.

First, do a search from the homepage where it says “Find Books and More”, and then click “Login” in the upper right hand corner.  Use your DU ID and passcode.

When you view information on a specific item, you can then add keywords to describe your item.  You will see a section at the bottom of the page that says “Community Tags — Add a Tag”.  We recommend that you use unique keyword tags such as top100films or a class name and number like LIS4362, but you can use any words or terms.

It will take about 5-15 minutes for the keywords to get indexed into the system.  Once they get indexed, you can then search on your keywords to display the results.

As the Academic Commons Penrose Library Building Project continues, we wanted to give an update on all the final moves that happened last week (July 5-8, 2011).

Most Penrose Library services (Circulation, Reserves, Research Center, Writing Center, computer lab, study space) are available at the interim location, Penrose@Driscoll in the north part of the Driscoll Student Center, just west of the Penrose Library building.

Additional Library Services

For help with personal computers and equipment, visit the UTS Help Desk at 2100 South High St., located on the southeast corner of High and Evans streets.

Penrose Library Special Collections and Archives have moved to Aspen Hall North, 2nd floor. Please schedule a research appointment to request materials during this transitional time (archives@du.edu or 303.871.3428).

Returning Books – The book drops at the Penrose Library building closed on July 5. Who’s moved?
Most library services, books, and materials have already moved out of the building. The move remains on schedule, and everything will be out by July 12, 2011. All Penrose Library phone numbers, mailing addresses, and email addresses will remain the same during the building project.

Classroom Support is now located in Aspen Hall South, ground floor. You may continue to contact them at (303) 871-3595 for classroom technology questions or reservations.

The Reference Librarians have moved to Aspen Hall Central, 2nd floor. Students, faculty, and staff seeking research assistance can continue to meet with the reference librarians at the Research Center in Penrose@Driscoll.

The Center for Teaching and Learning is now located in Aspen Hall North, 1st Floor. Please see http://ctl.du.edu/ for contact information and the complete list of services.

Penrose@Driscoll Study Spaces

Tuesday, July 5th, 2011

Wondering where you might study now that the Penrose Library building is closed for renovation? Here are some suggestions in addition to the workstations in the Gallery and seats and tables in the Ballroom:

• Soft seating outside Gallery/Ballroom:

• Jazzman’s Cafe
• Driscoll Underground (this is available as long as it isn’t being used for an event):

• Driscoll Bridge (look for tables)
• South lower level seating – there are a few tables outside the Pioneer Card office and a group of soft seating by Evans:
