Right before finals, Penrose was the place to be. We have plenty of seats, which helped everyone find a favorite place to study — we had over 30% more students studying in the library before spring break than last year!
The printers were going strong: on the busiest day, the printers near the Research Center produced almost 17,000 pieces of paper.
We added electrical outlets on the first floor, so you can plug in your laptop.
UTS added wireless nodes so your laptop and your iPhone can get on the network.
Librarians were taking extra appointments in the Research Center so your papers could be turned in on time and with great quality. The Writing Center was really busy, but not too busy to help YOU!
All these reasons to study in Penrose created a dilemma on Wednesday, March 11 — when it was time to close, there were still 300 students working in the building! Zarin Xavier, the evening desk supervisor, made the call after consulting with the library administration, and the library staff stayed open all night for you! When Zarin made the announcement — there were actually CHEERS – out loud, no whispering! Students sitting on the upper level ran down to the desk to say thanks! We’d also like to say thanks to Zarin, and Jennifer Everson for losing sleep…
We quickly changed our schedules (this is not easy to do, by the way) and stayed open 24 hours for the rest of finals. We’d like to thank all the library staff who stayed up all night, and also the UTS lab staff for their part in helping us to stay open. We will be looking at our use numbers to figure out what we should do next quarter before finals.
In the meantime, come on in – it’s probably a great idea to avoid that pre-finals stress, and we can help you with that —
