What kind of transgender resources does Penrose offer?

Penrose Library has an extensive collection of resources for research and information about the transgendered experience. In addition to our humanities and social sciences subject databases which cover a range of transgender issues, you can find  relevant journal articles, books, reports, and other materials in the Gender Studies Database
and journal articles in the GLBT Life and Issues Collection.

To identify transgender-related books and DVDS, search the library catalog with the truncated term transgender* which will retrieve more than 500 items in the collection, including titles such as Transgender 101: A Simple Guide to a Complex Issue (2012), The Complete Guide to Transgender in the Workplace (2009), Transfeminist Perspectives In and Beyond Transgender and Gender Studies (2012), and Safe Spaces: Making Schools and Communities Welcoming to LGBT Youth (2012).

Films about transgender in the Penrose Library range from Speak Up! Improving the Lives of Gay, Lesbian, Bi-Sexual, Transgender Youth (2002) to Renée (2011), a film about Renée Richards, the first transsexual tennis player, and from Tales of the Waria (2011) which explores a transgender community in Indonesia to Middle Sexes: Redefining He and She (2006) which investigates the blurring of gender, sexual identity, and sexual orientation.

If you would like to recommend that Penrose Library purchase a specific transgender book or DVD, please contact Jenny Bowers, Social Sciences Librarian, jennifer.bowers@du.edu or use the Suggest a Purchase form.
