How do I suggest a purchase?

Friday, December 7th, 2012

The Library welcomes suggestions for books and DVDs for purchase and will usually purchase materials suggested by students, faculty, and staff that further our mission “to support the teaching and research programs of the University.”  To make a suggestion, click on the Suggest a Purchase link under Collections on the Students, Faculty, or Staff landing pages.   If you would like to be notified when the item is ordered, you may include your email with your request.   You may also request to have the item held for you once it is received and processed.

Faculty, please note that requests for new items to be placed on reserve should be emailed to the Reserves Department (reserve@du.edu) to ensure they are ordered and received in time for your course.  For more details about placing materials on course reserves, please refer to our online guide.  If you have any questions about how our collections can support your teaching and research or have suggestions for databases please contact your subject-specialist liaison librarian.

How long can I keep the books I check out?

Friday, August 6th, 2010

Well, the answer to this question depends upon your “status” (not your social status), the type of material you wish to check out, and where it is coming from.  It depends if you are an undergraduate student, graduate student, staff member, faculty member, adjunct faculty member, visiting faculty member, or a host of other patron types.

It depends what you are checking out and from where.  We have books, DVDs, videos, government documents, reserve materials, and other things.  The length of time changes if the book is coming to Penrose through PASCAL, Prospector or through Interlibrary Loan.

The easiest way to determine the borrowing privileges is to look at some of the tables developed for different user communities. Here they are:

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

Faculty carrels are located on the upper level and lower levels of the building. They are small rooms with locks on the doors, in which faculty performing research can keep their materials and do their work.
