Where can I send or receive a fax?

Tuesday, July 26th, 2011

Faxes can be sent at Quick Copy, now located in the University Bookstore in the Driscoll Student Center South.

An alternative to faxing is to use our scanner, located in Penrose@Driscoll, just inside the entrance to the Ballroom in Driscoll North.

The scanner has an easy-to-use touch screen and requires a flash drive so that you can save your files.  Flash drives are available for check out at the Access Services desk in the Ballroom.

Where did the client version of SciFinder Scholar go?

Tuesday, July 19th, 2011

The Chemical Abstract Service (CAS) is no longer maintaining access to the Chemical Abstracts database through the SciFinder client.  The most recent version of the software was 2007, and they wanted to focus their energies on the web-based version.  In order to access the database, you will need to register with your DU email address with the CAS.  (Note: you might have to confirm security exceptions in order to get to the registration page. This is ok.) Once you do so, then you can start using the service.

For more information, go to the SciFinder Research Guide.

“SciFinder is a research discovery tool that allows you to explore the CAS databases containing literature from many scientific disciplines including biomedical sciences, chemistry, engineering, materials science, agricultural science, and more!”

How do I request recent print issues of journals and magazines?

Monday, July 11th, 2011

Due to the Penrose Library Building Project, most current print issues of journals and magazines are being stored at the Hampden Center.

If you want to see an entire issue (or multiple issues) of a recent print journal or magazine, please use these directions.

1.  Use the InterLibrary Loan Request form located under the Students, Faculty, or Staff menus on the library homepage.

2.  Choose the “request a photocopy” button

3.  Put in the journal title

4.  Explain in the notes field what issues are needed.

If you only want an article from an issue, you can also use the same form, but fill in the article information.  It will be scanned and emailed to you.  Print issues will be delivered to Penrose@Driscoll in about a half a day.  You will receive an email when the issues arrive.

Individual magazine issues are currently being barcoded and you will eventually be able to request individual issues by using the Request It button in our Library Catalog.  We will let you know when this new feature is available.

Please let us know if you have any questions!
