Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

The Penrose Library building is currently under renovation. This is the Academic Commons Project. Currently, services are provided in the Driscoll University Center North (Also called the Driscoll Student Center).

We recommend visitors park in the Driscoll Center Hourly lot, which is next to the north side of the building.

Why can’t I get into any of the databases?

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

There are a number of possible causes. Call our Borrowing & Lending (Circulation) Desk (303-871-3707) to see if we have your name and DU ID number in our system. Also, we have noted problems with certain browsers to get into databases remotely. If you are using AOL, Compuserve, or MSN as your Internet Service Provider, then we recommend that you download and use a full version of either Netscape or Microsoft Internet Explorer with those Internet Service Providers.

While most of our databases are available from off-campus, there are some that require you to be on campus while using them.

Why hasn’t my Prospector book arrived?

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

Usually it takes 3-5 days for Prospector books to arrive. If your book is coming from a library on the western slope, it may take up to 7 days to arrive. This time frame can also increase if the book you have requested is already checked out from many or all of the Prospector libraries.  You will receive an email notice when the book is ready for you to pick-up at the Circulation/Reserve Desk.

Why is the font so small?

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

Computer display settings vary widely and affect the size of what you see on the monitor. In Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari the size of the text can be modified using the “View” menu option.  In Google Chrome select the button that resembles a sheet of paper with the corner folded and select “Zoom”. You can also hold the “Ctrl” button and use the scroll wheel on the mouse to zoom in or out.

Why was my Prospector request cancelled, and what do I do now to get the book I want?

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

Your Prospector request will be altered if the book is checked out, lost, or can be used only in the library. At this point your request will be transferred to another library that has the book available. If no available copy of the book is found, your request will be cancelled and you will be notified by email. The next step would be to request the book through Interlibrary Loan. Interlibrary Loan will search for a library outside of the Prospector system that owns the book.  These materials are mailed to Penrose Library and can take several days or weeks to arrive.

You can also search for non-circulating copies of the book at libraries in the area.  If it is available at one of these libraries you are welcome to use the item at the library that owns the book.

How do I make photocopies?

There are two copy machines on the main floor of Penrose Library. One at the main entrance and the other near the UTS help desk. The copiers on the main level accept cash, including coins and one and five dollar bills. Flex money from the DU Pioneer card is also accepted. Cost for copying is 15 cents per page. For larger printing and copy jobs, as well as a variety of other services, the Quick Copy is located on the main floor of the library.
