As mandated by law, each year a national debate topic is selected as the national high school debate topic.
The Library of Congress prepares extensive bibliographies on each topic. Recent topics include foreign
policy toward Russia, academic achievement in secondary schools, policy on renewable energy, and a
program to reduce juvenile crime.
