Jack Foster was the editor of the Rocky Mountain News
in Denver, Colorado, for thirty years, from 1940 to 1970. He kept
the newspaper from having to close its doors in the early 1940s,
and enjoyed a close relationship with a number of prominent leaders,
including President Dwight D. Eisenhower.
Scope and Content
The Jack Foster Collection consists primarily of correspondence
and speeches. Series I contains Foster's correspondence with Eisenhower,
Richard Nixon, Roy W. Howard and Jack Howard of Scripps-Howard News
Service and other notable figures. Series II contains speeches given
by Foster to a variety of organizations, including the Colorado
Bar Association and the Denver Chapter of the American Red Cross.
The series contains commencement addresses Foster gave at the University
of Wyoming, Loretto Heights College, Colorado A & M (now Colorado
State University), Colorado State College of Education (now University
of Northern Colorado), and Denver Country Day School. Also included
are Foster's addresses given at the University of Denver for its
Founders' Day celebration and the inauguration of Albert Charles
Jacobs as eleventh Chancellor of the University.
