Scope and Content

The Lyle W. Dorsett Collection at the University of Denver consists of materials connected with his tenure as a professor of history from 1972 until 1983. The first part of the collection contains his notes and research materials for his book The Queen City: A History of Denver, which was published in 1977. These are followed by several files of general research notes and articles on Denver and Colorado politics and business, including the First of Denver Bank, the subject of a 1984 book. The next series contains newspapers from the early days of Denver and Colorado, several of them German language editions.

The remainder of the collection consists of student papers, including many transcripts and audio tapes of oral interviews conducted by Dorsett's students with subjects knowledgeable about the history of Denver and Colorado. These papers and tapes are available to qualified researchers.
