A. Helen Anderson (1891-1975) served as Director of Publications for Denver Public Schools, Denver, CO., under Superintendent Archie L. Threlkeld from 1929 to 1956, and was a teacher at South High School from 1918-1929. She was also one of the founders of the National School Public Relations Association and served as their President from 1934 to 1936. Anderson was instrumental in founding the Rocky Mountain Radio Council. She was named "Woman of the Year" in 1956 by the Business and Professional Women's Club of Denver and "Distinguished Alumna" of the University of Denver in 1952. Anderson wrote numerous professional articles and short stories.

Scope and Content

The A. Helen Anderson Collection consists of newspaper clippings, editorials, and correspondence assembled during her tenure as Director of Publications for the Denver Public Schools. These materials cover attacks on the public schools and other controversies during the McCarthy Era of the 1950's, as well as busing and desegregation in the Denver Public Schools during the 1960's. The collection also includes correspondence regarding the National Council for American Education, and its organizer Allen Zoll, and a bibliography of materials concerning attacks on public education.
